The Interface

  • ❤️ Likes are for the poster to let them know you saw/liked their post.
  • 🚀Boosts make the post appear in your timeline so that your followers can see it.
  • 🔖Bookmarks are a kind of "to do" list just for you.
  • 📃Lists are for grouping
  • #️⃣ You can follow hashtags (which is super useful!)

Tips

Apps

  • Elk (PWA) - Elk is a Progressive Web App (PWA) meaning that is runs in a browser and can be "installed" on any device that a modern browser runs on.
  • Phanpy - (my app of choice) Phanpy is another Progressive Web App (PWA) that is a refreshing new take on how to present a social feed to a user. One of the main things it does different is the way it presents Boosts. It lets you follow accounts that boost a lot with out overwhelming the rest of your feed.
  • Tusky (Android) 'Tusky is a lightweight client for Mastodon, a free and open-source social network server. It supports all Mastodon features, like photos, videos, lists, custom emojis and is designed according to material guidelines.'
  • Statuzer 'Multi-accounts, multi-columns Mastodon client'

Tools

  • MastoGizmos - Mastodon Tools and Searches 'This web site is a collection of one-page JavaScript apps offering new ways to search and explore Mastodon's content.'
  • Posty 'Using this tool, you can extract your Mastodon archive and create a static site that can be hosted anywhere.'

Browser Extensions

  • Graze for Chrome based browsers 'Graze is 1-click follow, favorite, boost, bookmark, and reply for Mastodon, no matter what instance you call home.' This extension is highly recommended. It fixes this issue. Also available for Firefox.
