#Obsidian folks: If you use Obsidian for work and personal are you using separate vaults? That's what I'm doing currently but I'm trying to decide if that is really the right approach. Let me know your thoughts and why you set it up that way.

  • Lamont Sky on 🐘 : @techlifeweb Separate vaults because of data privacy rights, data security, work-life-balance, …
  • The Peter Pan of Nerdery™ ???????? on 🐘 : @techlifeweb I used the same vault for both, BUT I'm not one of these power users that saves every single personal thing to Obsidian. I only had maybe 100 pages for personal stuff, if that. Work took up most of it. It would depend on size and breadth of storage I guess. Others might want to keep church and state completely different.
  • Richard Brisebois on 🐘 : @techlifeweb separate bc there is no overlap.
  • kenan :vim: :rust: on 🐘 : @techlifeweb One vault if it overlaps, multiple vaults if not.
  • Wolf on 🌐 : @techlifeweb Yes. Separate vaults.
  • Patrick on 🌐 : @techlifeweb Separate initially just because of work/life balance, now also because they are not configured in the same way.
  • Henrik Nyh on 🌐 : @techlifeweb Same vault because I think increasingly of it as a second brain and I use the same brain for both. Daily Notes will mix work and non-work things, people notes have some people with a presence in both realms, notes on work tools and skills apply to some side projects and might also apply to future places of work…
  • Colman Reilly on 🐘 : @pa @techlifeweb that too. I separate by legal entity: my freelance and personal vaults are shared, the one for my limited company is different.
  • Rob Yurkowski (he/him) on 🌐 : @techlifeweb I have separate vaults for my primary client and then a personal vault that includes occasional clients! I have two general rules of thumb: - Is there pre-existing documentation that I'm enhancing with my own notes? If so, I want them separate because I don't want to accidentally commit a private note. - Is there a risk I might be asked to turn over any data I have? If so, I keep the vaults separate, and anything that needs to make its way back into my personal vault needs to be generalized. Hope that is helpful!
  • Ellane W on 🌐 : @techlifeweb I work for myself, so there's no problem keeping everything in the one vault. I have separate vaults for my website, and for risky plugin adventures.
  • Leah Ferguson on 🌐 : @techlifeweb Separate vaults for data privacy. I don’t want notes about confidential employer work on my personal device (nor does my employer for that matter), and I don’t want personal notes on my employer’s device! My industry volunteer work lives in my personal vault, and I just transfer notes from professional to personal about that as needed.
