How to Bulk Delete Completed Tasks from Microsoft ToDo
Published by Scott Kingery on
In the Microsoft ToDo app you might have reasons to delete all of your completed tasks. For example, maybe you track your completes in another app like I do and want to just keep the app running smoothly. Whatever the reason, it's easy to delete things one task at a time but it isn't as straight forward if you want to delete your tasks in bulk. To get you started, here a little how to.
In the ToDo Desktop app do the following:
- Ensure the "Completed" smart list is showing
- Click user icon in upper left
- Click Settings
- Scroll to Smart Lists and ensure the slider for Completed is set to On

- Exit the settings menu and go the the Completed List
- You should have different sections within the Completed list that correspond to you other lists (for example, Flagged Email)

- Expand the list by clicking on the ">" icon next to the list name

- Note if you have many many completed items in this list you may need to wait a minute before proceeding
- Once the list is expanded, right click on the list title and select Delete Tasks (if the dialog box to click Delete Tasks doesn't show up, WAIT it can take minutes if you have a lot of tasks). You'll be asked to confirm you want to delete.
- Depending on the number of tasks you have to delete it can take awhile. There is a kind of scrolling dot indicator at the top of the To Do window to indicate there is something happening.
- Repeat the process for each lists you would like to clean up
- You should have different sections within the Completed list that correspond to you other lists (for example, Flagged Email)
if you deleted many items it might take a long time for everything to sync. Be patient! Clicking on your user icon in the upper left will show you if the app is still syncing.
