#Obsidian users, if you were to start over again on your main daily driver vault, what would you do differently? #ObsidianMD

@techlifeweb I have reworked mine a few times. I think I would spend more time thinking about exactly what I want.

@techlifeweb Fewer plugins, more templates, systematized properties and tags.

@techlifeweb Set myself a goal for this daily note-taking, find a way to show it off and install as few plugins as possible. Keep it as simple as possible.

@techlifeweb I have everything in one vault because it makes linking easier. If I were to start again, I’d separate it into several vaults and use file links from Finder (I have a Shortcut to extract a file’s URL into Markdown) for the few cross-Vault links I’d need.
And I’d be more careful about keeping PDFs in a normal Finder folder rather than in my Vaults.

@techlifeweb nothing really. It’s a step-by-step process that evolves as you get better at it

@chris @techlifeweb yeah - that was going to be my response too

@techlifeweb I wish I’d started out with the habit of adding new notes by first creating a link in a relevant parent note. I’ve added too many unlinked “fleeting notes” assuming I’d someday go back and make connections. Better to take a moment to do that up front.

@techlifeweb Not being cocky, but I would not change a thing. I brought over 15 years of notes from Evernote, all tagged and built my vault around that. I use 50+ plugins and would gladly add more if they gave me functionality I wanted. I use one big vault and use Obsidian sync to selectively download only what I need to each of the 5 devices I use. Learning Obsidian from the ground up has been the most enjoyable thing I've done one a computer since Netscape 2 was released.
