Simpson making up for over-sliding 2nd base in the 1st with his defense but damn, I thought for a sec he got knocked out by the wall when he slammed into it at full speed.

Lots of good drama in Game 1 all the way up to and including the last out. Padres remain the only team to beat the Brewers in the playoffs.

Jake Woodford ring guarantee: The pitcher appeared in games for both the Rays and Brewers during the 2026 regular season, meaning he will receive a World Series ring from whichever team wins the championship, even though he is currently a free agent.

I quite like Steph Ango's system of rating 1 to 7 so I'm adopting it. It is more granular than 1 to 5 and 1 to 10 is too many.
- 7 — Perfect, must try, life-changing, go out of your way to seek this out
- 6 — Excellent, worth repeating
- 5 — Good, don’t go out of your way, but enjoyable
- 4 — Passable, works in a pinch
- 3 — Bad, don’t do this if you can
- 2 — Atrocious, actively avoid, repulsive
- 1 — Evil, life-changing in a bad way
