According to the report, AI models being tested by OpenAI allegedly escaped their testing environment, found vulnerabilities, accessed Hugging Face systems, and pursued their goal without direct human guidance. The report presents this as the first publicly documented example of a fully autonomous cyberattack.

Rating Scale

I quite like Steph Ango's system of rating 1 to 7 so I'm adopting it. It is more granular than 1 to 5 and 1 to 10 is too many.

  • 7 — Perfect, must try, life-changing, go out of your way to seek this out
  • 6 — Excellent, worth repeating
  • 5 — Good, don’t go out of your way, but enjoyable
  • 4 — Passable, works in a pinch
  • 3 — Bad, don’t do this if you can
  • 2 — Atrocious, actively avoid, repulsive
  • 1 — Evil, life-changing in a bad way
