Need To Know
Energy Ceasefire Ends
Ukraine struck an oil refinery southeast of Moscow yesterday in retaliation for Russia damaging energy facilities in and around Kyiv. The strikes defied President Donald Trump’s declaration of a ceasefire Sunday (see previous write-up).
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy maintains he was not involved in any ceasefire negotiations before Trump's announcement. He nonetheless paused strikes for several days after, alleging yesterday that US officials had threatened to withhold intelligence if he continued attacks (scroll for map of strikes). Russia did not publicly acknowledge a ceasefire, and an attack Wednesday left over 600,000 Ukrainians without power. Ukraine says it did not receive advance warning of that attack and accused Elon Musk's SpaceX of cutting access to internet service Starshield (see Musk's response).
Brent crude oil futures fell 0.1% yesterday while West Texas Intermediate climbed 2.8%.
Execution Livestream Canceled
President Donald Trump yesterday called off the Pentagon's plans to livestream the firing-squad execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan after bipartisan backlash.
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced last week that the Dec. 3 execution would be broadcast to deter terrorism. Hasan, a former Army psychiatrist, killed 13 people and wounded 32 others on a Texas military base in 2009, citing opposition to what he called a "war on Islam" as his motive. He would have been the first person publicly executed in the US since 1936, when roughly 20,000 people gathered in Kentucky to watch the hanging of a Black man convicted of raping a white woman. About 8 in 10 Americans oppose public executions, according to recent polling. Iran, Yemen, and Afghanistan are the only known countries to have carried out public executions since 2021.
Hasan's execution will still be the first by a US military firing squad since 1945, as the US also reintroduces electric chair and gas chamber executions.

The Flying Car CEO Skeptics Underestimated
One year ago, Doron Mordinger, the CEO of flying car company Doroni, sat down on a live webinar and laid out a bold vision. Investors were hooked; if he could deliver on these milestones, this private stage company would be well on its way to leading the $100B personal aircraft category.
Skeptics missed out, because one year later, he did. In March, when Doroni unveiled the H1-X, FOX Business called it “the ‘flying car’ set to revolutionize personal air travel.” Now, with 600+ preorders of their revolutionary H1-X aircraft, Doroni’s preparing for commercial deliveries as early as 2028.

'You Can See Everything'
A documentary about disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes opens in select theaters today after setting advance ticket sales records for documentaries and A24 films at Alamo Drafthouse.
The 174-minute film begins 34 days before Holmes entered prison in 2023 to serve an 11-year sentence for defrauding investors in her failed blood-testing company (watch Holmes discuss life in prison). Holmes approached A24 about documenting her final weeks of freedom, and the studio tapped comedian Nathan Fielder, known for “Nathan for You,” and filmmaker Lance Oppenheim. The pair eventually moved into the guesthouse at the San Diego rental Holmes shared with partner Billy Evans and their two children. The filmmakers challenge Holmes' account of the Theranos scandal, while Holmes maintains her innocence; watch the trailer.
The documentary has earned a 100% critics' score on Rotten Tomatoes so far and is projected to earn at least $7M during its opening weekend. Holmes and Evans reportedly have not yet watched the finished film.
