I started playing with separate daily notes again, and found that so many moving parts weren't a good fit for my brain. Going back to one big text file for capturing daily thoughts feels much better. One of the four lessons I learned from the exercise: Daily notes aren't the problem, and one big text file is not the solution. You have to tailor things to suit yourself, not me or anybody else.

Tasks are like steps in a recipe, categories are like menu plans, and events tell you when to get the dish out of the oven. Keeping individual tasks in your calendar is a sure path to overwhelm. You want your calendar to tell you when it’s dinner time, not how hot the oven should be.

This week I made a plain text calendar that is providing a supplementary, intentional, optional layer that is bringing my plans into sharper focus. The Obsidian plugin Simple Checklist is a nice way to view just the days I want to see.
