Today a registered letter arrived at my place. It was a conspicuously passport-sized envelope, addressed to my baby grandson. I signed for it, and immediately sent a photo of the envelope with his mother to announce its anticipated arrival.
Hooray! she exclaimed. Open it, and show me his dear little face! Done. We bathed in the cuteness. Then she said, It’s his first ever letter, I’ll have to keep the envelope.
Oh.
Oh dear.
In my haste, I had torn the envelope open to get to what was inside! I pressed it back together as best I could, took a photo of the damage and sent it to the proud Mama with my apologies.
Her response?
Perfect!
A grandma’s eagerness to see her tiny grandbaby had apparently become a “perfect” expression of love, shaped by the moment. Now that’s what I call a good attitude!

Pursue excellence, by all means! But don't fall prey to the kind of perfectionism that makes you afraid to make mistakes. Try celebrating the tiny moments that feel like perfection even when they are messy.
